Now, Foreign tourists get a visa-free facility to enter North Sulawesi. Through the Circular Letter (SE) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number: IMI 0459.GR.01.01 of 2022 on Ease of Immigration in Order to Support Sustainable Tourism during the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Indonesian Government established an Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) at Sam Ratulangi Airport in Sulawesi North as one of 6 TPI that can grant Visa On Arrival (VOA) and Free Special Visit Visa (BVKKW). This policy is one of the Indonesian Government’s efforts to support and encourage the tourism sector in North Sulawesi. The Governor of North Sulawesi, Olly Dondokambey, positively welcomed the policy. “So now Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado has been applied to be VOA-free for foreign tourists. This policy will increase the number of foreign tourists visiting North Sulawesi. As we already know before the pandemic, North Sulawesi was a favorite destination for Chinese tourists. I hope this program can stimulate the tourism sector again,” he said. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights has instructed administrative officials in charge of immigration checks at the Immigration Checkpoints to grant free visas for special tourist visits and grant visit visas upon special tourist arrivals at the Immigration checkpoints. Apart from Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado, this policy applies at Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Kualanamu International Airport in North Sumatra, Juanda International Airport in East Java, Hasanuddin International Airport in South Sulawesi, and Adisutjipto International Airport in Yogyakarta.
